In 2000 the Hospital Doctors Association created the opportunity for all junior physicians and their families to have comprehensive health insurance at rates that in most cases would be less than if they were to seek insurance elsewhere. Shortly after its commencement the HDA extended the courtesy of joining the plan to senior physicians.
In January 2004 the HDA contracted with Imperial Life, now Colina Imperial, to provide the plan which is presently held. Key benefits include a one million dollar lifetime coverage, a twenty thousand dollar life insurance benefit, preventative health care at 100% coverage, maternity care at 100% coverage, eye and dental benefits to name a few.

It should be noted that as a result of recently concluded industrial agreements the doctors union, nurses union, and BPSU have been in discussions with the Public Hospital Authority (PHA) to provide health insurance for all PHA employees. We expect that the discussions will be concluded in the not to distant future. The National Health Insurance Scheme will not influence these discussions. |
